UFO Search Engine

June 4, 2010

The URL <http://www.manuals-search-pdf.com/> of the site is something of misnomer - here users will be able to look up far more than PDFs.

On the UFO Search Engine website users will be able to locate DOC, PPT and XLS files.

All users have to do is...

  • specify a title of an eBook they are interested in, and
  • the results will be displayed for them to choose from.
This is in its early stages of development but is worth a closer look.

Locate Online Courses and Course Materials

June 3, 2010

Einztein is an online tool for locating online collegiate level courses and corresponding materials.

Einztein isn't a standard search engine as all courses listed...

  • are reviewed by a PhD level editorial team.
  • come with a listing of the types of materials available for each course. Some courses have
    • audio,
    • video, and
    • documents while other course may only have one or two of those elements.

Visitors to Einztein can search for course by keyword or simply browse by subject...

Web research strategies

April 7, 2010

Vaughan Memorial Library at Acadia University hosts four free animated tutorials designed to teach lessons on web research strategies. <http://library.acadiau.ca/help/tutorials.html>

The four tutorials are...

  • Credible Sources Count - learners discover how to recognize the validity of information on the Internet. A good tutorial except for the strong emphasis on using domain names for determining validity;

  • Research It Right - walks lear...

TinyPad

February 20, 2010

Welcome to what may well become the home of the most popular note-taking helper!

Isn't it annoying when you want to take some notes and you have to...

  • open Word/notepad/other 'word processors' before you can start; and/or if already open
  • keep clicking backward and forwards as Word/notepad/other 'word processors' don't float above the web page(s)? or
  • tile windows so you and do research and take notes at the same time.

Do you and or your learners find that Window’s Word and NotePad are OK...

I'mHalal

February 2, 2010

There are many search engines on the web that focus on accuracy and relevancy even though that sometimes means displaying inappropriate and explicit content.

I'mHalal is a search engine design for the Muslim community that filters out all the ‘explicit’ content when displaying the search results.

This allows users, and they don't have to be Muslim, to use the internet in a clean and safe environment.

I'mHalal is still in relatively early stages it...
