Drumbot

Posted by John Dalziel on Wednesday, February 24, 2010 In : Tools

The Drumbot wesbite hosts several disparate services and tools into one, but they have one thing in common: they are all geared towards musicians.

The tools include...

  • metronomes;
  • guitar tuners;
  • pattern sequencers; and
  • a drumbot that can sit in as a drummer to jam with.

There is also a fifth tool called “Tap BPM” which enables users to tap the keyboard in order to find the beat of any song.

Find out more and/or use the tools at http://www.drumbot.com/.

Note: All of these tools can...

Virtual Piano

Posted by John Dalziel on Tuesday, February 2, 2010 In : Virtual Instrument

If you have learners who don't have access to a Piano and/or don’t want to spend tons of money on an actual instrument, here is something they may like.

VirtualPiano lets users play a piano online with computer keyboard.

Each letter on your keyboard corresponds to a key on the piano.

VirtualPiano can be used to record compositions and play it back afterward. Moreover users can change the music and the style of the piano.

I am told, I must admit I have no idea, that the virtual pian...

Jamendo

Posted by John Dalziel on Wednesday, January 6, 2010 In : mp3 audio downloads

Have you, or your learners, ever created a multimedia project and wanted to add music to it but did want to infringe on copyright regulations?

Well Jamendo could become a one stop shop resource. Make sure the artist is given credit and users can use most of the music on their site for free.

Note: This is one of a number of sites that I have found that provides music for projects. It can also be used by artists

Just visit http://www.jamendo.com/en/ to find out more.

Sheet Music Editor

Posted by John Dalziel on Wednesday, December 30, 2009 In : Authoring Tool

SheetMusicEditor allows users to drag and drop their...

  • clefs,
  • time signatures and
  • notes
...onto the sheet. Very simple, and very intuitive.

Because users have to manually drag everything into the right place the resulting sheets won’t have that high quality look; alignment of notes will be slightly off.

A great tool to write down simple tunes and prepare them for printing quickly. I don't think it would be advisable to use with very complicated compositions.

iNudge

Posted by John Dalziel on Sunday, September 27, 2009 In : Authoring Tool

iNudge is a free and fun music synthesizer that lets users create their own sound patterns by selecting steps on a 16×16 matrix.

It seems pointless at first, but once users start creating more advanced sound patterns it can get quite addictive.

Start by selecting little squares on the matrix with a mouse. Users can adjust volume and speed (tempo) of the 'tune' or clear the pattern with “CLR” button at the bottom.

If users want to save and play the tune later, the Get & Share allow...

Free Online Music Composer & Note Editor

Tools and Software for composing music and writing musical notes are not cheap and not all musicians can afford them.

Noteflight is a new online music composer and note editor which could serve as a nice alternative for such tools.

Users can...

  • create,
  • edit,
  • display and
  • play back music notation online.

The great thing – users don’t need to connect a musical instrument to enter notes. They just do it using keyboard and mouse.
