New technology could help businesses cut down on their carbon footprint by avoiding unnecessary travel.

This is the view of a study commissioned by the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), which highlighted the possibilities of Telepresence. The system allows meetings to be held virtually by using video conferencing and other communication technologies.

According to the report, Telepresence could allow UK and US businesses to cut upto 5.5 million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions by 2020.
