Splicd • Get Straight To The Point

August 25, 2011

Splicd is an invaluable service that lets users, practitioners and learners alike, select and share a segment of a YouTube video.

I found Splicd a simple and easy service to use;
  • select a video from YouTube,
  • copy the video's url into Splicd,
  • enter the start and end times of the video segment required.
This service has so much potential within education - resources, evidence, presentations etc.

I would be surprised if readers of this find didn’t visit http://www.splicd.com/ to try it out.

An increasing number of learning providers are...

  • using video and audio to collect evidence; and
  • using Xerte to produce accessible learning resources - including audio and video clips;

In both cases transcriptions may be required and/or, in the case of accessible resources, is essential to widen access.

Scribie...

  • is a company specialized in audio transcription services;
  • enables users to submit audio recordings...
    • Interviews,

If you are one of the many practitioners who want to make it easier for your learners to carry out learning activities that involve drawing on images, then you should check this service out.

Drawtivity (developed by Webducate funded by the Talis Incubator) is an e-learning tool for creating on-line activities that involve both drawing and feedback. As an Open Education Resource authoring tool, Drawtivity facilitates the sharing, reuse and adaptation of these activities.

Create Video Questionnaires

Intervue.me...

  • is a new website I have been evaluating recently;
  • is another website that is based around the use of webcams;
  • enables users to create questionnaires and then get the recipients of the questionnaire to leave video recorded answers.

The site is very easy to use...

  • Register;
  • go to 'My Dashboard';
  • click on 'Create New' to start a questionnaire;
  • click on 'Edit title' so that you can give your questionnaire a name;
  • decide o...

March 24, 2011
Image of Flubaroo Logo

Multiple choice quizzes are still used by practitioners for a variety of purposes. If you use multiple choice quizzes for any purpose, using Google Docs and grading it with Flubaroo could save a lot of time that individuals can put to better use on other tasks.

Flubaroo...

  • is a free script that practitioners can use to grade the quizzes that they administer through Google Docs;
  • provides step-by-step directions for using the script.

To use Flubaroo...

Clip & Share

January 13, 2011

If you show videos as part of your teaching/training etc., and/or use video evidence, SnipSnip.it could be useful for skipping over the parts of a video you don't need learners/assessors/verifiers... to watch.

Another benefit of SnipSnip.it is that when the videos playback they are displayed on a blank canvas devoid of the distracting and sometimes inappropriate "related videos" that appear on YouTube.

To use SnipSnip.it...

  • copy the link (URL) of a YouTube video;
  • paste it into S...

Googlios

October 30, 2010

I feel this fits in more with the needs of HE and ePDP Portfolios (online (e) Personal Development & Planning)

"Googlios" are where free Google tools meet ePortfolios.

The Googlios website is intended to be "a collection of resources for those interested in using ePortfolios in Education".

The video clip below provides a 2 minute intrduction; it can also be viewed at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mCdm2rTe17s...

Googlios may well provide an ideal Personal Learning Environm...

Voicebase

October 10, 2010

An increasing number of people make audio recordings...

  • lectures;
  • presentations;
  • speeches;
  • radio broadcasts;
  • vidcasts;
  • forums;
  • video conferences;
  • skype calls;
  • assessments;
  • interviews; and so on.
Somebody is then often tasked to transcribe it. Why? Well by converting the audio into text files, the audio can be made searchable on the web, making it easier for others to find.

Send to Dropbox

July 17, 2010

I know that there are a number of learning providers who don't have a VLE for their learners to upload their (e)Portfolio Evidence, coursework, projects, etc. I'm also aware that some are using Google Docs or Microsoft Apps and other options. Well here is another possible solution, that wont fill up your email account with attachments...

Send to Dropbox is a new service that allows users to upload files to a Dropbox account via email from any computer.
