Posted by John Dalziel on Friday, August 26, 2011, In : Communication

The ShoutOmatic platform lets Practitioners, Learners and other Stakeholders record short messages ("shouts") straight from their desktops and smartphones, and have them instantly delivered to others.
These short "shouts" can be used in so many different ways, within the learning environment,in a more personalised way than faceless emails, texts, tweets etc.

"Shouts" are particularly suitable for educational use since they all come with their very own QR codes; providing alternative communicat...

Touration

Posted by John Dalziel on Tuesday, July 27, 2010, In : Communication

Touration is an excellent service for adding a guided tour to your web presence.

Take a look at my first effort on the home page of this website http://www.acljohn.com/; by clicking on the
icon at the top of the Home Page.

The Next and Previous controls can be seen near the bottom of the screen once the tour has been opened.

All this without any scripting, just using a visual editor.

Increase user understanding by providing 'just in time' support, helping your visitors, learners, s...

Microsoft Translator Widget

Posted by John Dalziel on Saturday, July 10, 2010, In : Communication

With such a diverse community across the UK today, there are plenty of good reasons to make learner provider websites and portals as accessible as possible to learners and other stakeholders from outside of the UK, or for those whom English is a second language.

The new version of the Microsoft Translator tool could therefore be really useful. It's free, and it translates web pages into 30 languages!

Basically, Microsoft Translator is a little web widget that sits on your website or port...

Posted by John Dalziel on Sunday, June 20, 2010, In : Communication

Show my Homework

Posted by John Dalziel on Sunday, May 9, 2010, In : Communication

I've included Show my Homework, new website aimed at Schools, for two reasons...

  1. a number of 'school practitioners' subscribe to the eMagazine, Blog etc.; and they will find this very useful; and
  2. this could be used by our supported learning providers; not so much for homework, but for deadlines, assessment, etc.

Show my Homework is a free service for teachers to...

  • post homework questions;
  • upload worksheets; and
  • set deadlines.

Excellent to raise awareness about homework at a school, o...

Readability: Copyc.at

Posted by John Dalziel on Friday, May 7, 2010, In : Communication

Copyc does what it says on the tin website!

Either...

Copy & paste the URL into the text box on the website and click the check button;

Or...

when on a particular website type http://copyc.at/ in front of the URL in the Address window, followed by the enter key on your keyboard.

Copyc then checks the webpage and provides data that includes...

  • General Statistics...
    • Number of Sentences
    • Number of Words
    • Average Word Length - both syllables and characters

Looking for...

  • Live Chat;
  • Email;
  • Feedback System; and/or
  • FAQ...
...communication channels in one simple interface?

Well a Jabber Live Chat and Feedback Widget for your website may just be the answer you are looking for.

As always I've tried it out on my website, http://www.acljohn.com/;

  • when I'm signed in, using Trillian (Browser Version) the widget tells visitors I'm online and - visitors are able to chat with me live.
  • when I'm not signed in, the widget tells visitors I'm offline and ...

How Skype Is Changing the Job Interview

Posted by John Dalziel on Tuesday, October 27, 2009, In : Communication

During October three of us, from the RSC Team, were involved with an eProgress Review with a learning provider whose staff were dispersed across the UK. Holding face to face interviews was not economical, or green, so we used skype to interview their staff. With the Call Graph Plug-in we were able to record the conversations. A very successful use of technology!

I've now come across an article in Time Magazine that starts...

"Get ready for a closeup: your next job interview might be on webc...
