Skype is a free (for most purposes) service that learning providers and their practitioners are using to connect stakeholders across the town/city/region/country/globe. It's not surprising therefore that an increasing number of learning providers are using Skype for..

  • Learner /Employer/Stakeholder Voice;
  • Remote assessments - Job Knowledge Questions/Interviews, ITQ & other ICT/IT observations etc.;
  • Delivery of "course elements" to learners based over a large area;

...and so much more.

If you're thinking about or are currently using Skype for educational purposes, then be aware that they are going to start inserting some advertising into the home tab in Skype for Windows.

Skype says that they won't be using pop-ups or interrupting calls with advertising.

I always felt that Skype could make this move at some time as, like the rest of us, they have bills to pay. Raising revenue this way must be better for the education sector than move to a completely fee-based model.
